What’s Your Answer?

What’s Your Answer?

Do lazy days make you feel rested or unproductive?

To me, the word “lazy” has a negative connotation attached to it. But why? Aren’t we all entitled to a little lazy time amidst the bustle and hustle this world hands out? I think we are.

Do I feel unproductive? Not usually, no. But I think having hypervigilance plays a contributing factor to my always feeling busy and alert.

How about you? What say you??

It is hard for me to have lazy days, it doesn’t feel right to me. And when I really do need to rest, I feel like I’m being unproductive. 😦

I am slowly learning that it is OK to stop. My body sometimes forcefully tells me. The trick is however to make sure you start again. Because laziness is like sugar, highly addictive, socially acceptable even “cool”, and really, really bad for you.

I’m Matthew

Welcome to the official blog of Matthew Heneghan — author of A Medic’s Mind and Woven in War, and host of the trauma-focused podcast Unwritten Chapters.

As a former Canadian Armed Forces medic and civilian paramedic, I’ve lived through the raw edges of trauma, addiction, grief, and healing. Through honest storytelling and lived experience, I write and speak about PTSD, trauma recovery, mental health awareness, and resilience — especially from the lens of veterans and first responders.

If you’re searching for real-life stories of overcoming adversity, the effects of service-related trauma, or insight into the recovery process after hitting rock bottom — you’re in the right place. My goal is to foster connection through shared experience, break stigma, and offer hope.
